Off-Awful Creator Leads Web Series 101 Workshop at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota

sarah pic for offawful siteSarah Jane Marek (Creator and Executive Producer) Sarah Jane is from Winona, Minnesota. Off-Awful was inspired by Sarah’s misadventures in the NYC acting world. She studied theatre at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and improv at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater in New York.

Katie Sullivan (Writer)  Katie Sullivan was born in Baton Rouge, LA and grew up the the Bay Area of California. Having spent a good deal of time in the theatre education world, she has written many short plays and musical reviews for 5-18 year old performers. She has an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University where she wrote several plays and adaptations, including her thesis project, “Hamper Learns a Lesson.” She has studied writing and performance at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre, New York.

Nyle Cavazos Garcia (Director)  Nyle Cavazos Garcia, born in Caldwell, Idaho, attended Boise StatUniversity under scholarship where he founded Small Town Pictures. Nyle’s first short film, WEDDING NIGHT, won Best Short Film at the 1997 Nell Shipman Awards in Boise, Idaho. Nyle then relocated to New York, where he worked in production on independent films for Lion’s Gate, Good Machine and The Shooting Gallery. Nyle continued to write and direct short films such as HUMIDITY (2000 Official Selection: Brooklyn International Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival, Long Island Film Festival), and THE SUPPORT GROUP (2002 Official Selection: Sundance Film Festival). Nyle then relocated to Los Angeles and produced his feature film directorial debut, CLEAN (2004). CLEAN went on to win a bounty of top awards at various film festivals, including Rhode Island International Film Festival, Park City Film Music Festival, Sacramento International Film Festival and Beverly Hills Film Festival. Upon his return to New York in 2008, Nyle has directed a handful of award-winning short films including THE DARK (2008), BLEEDING (2009), A LONG ROAD (2010), and THE MAN WITH THE RED RIGHT HAND (2011), all of which will be included in the 2013 release of Nyle’s dramatic thriller anthology, DARK PASSENGER: VOL. 01, which is being dristributed domestically by R-Squared Films. Nyle is currently prepping his two 35mm horror feature films: TAG starring Vincent Gallo, and OLIVIA’S FINGERS starring Heather Matarazzo.
